Austrian Reinforcements – July 6, 1809
Armee von Innerösterreich -Erzherzog Johann von Habsburg
Knowing a major battle was about to begin, Erzherzog Karl summoned all available reinforcements. He counted on Johann to reinforce the left flank of the Austrian position. Unfortunately Johann was slow to mobilize and march from Pressburg to the battle field through Ober Siebenbrunn. A glance at the map indicates the entry of Johann at this position would conflict with Grouchy and Montbruun’s attempt to turn the Austrian position on the Russbach Heights. This was a major concern of Napoleon. Archduke John’s army has the potential to start arriving at 10:00 am, based on this arrival table . Roll one hour before each potential appearance hour. (Roll at 10:00 for the 11:00 turn. If he does not arrive for the 11:00 turn, you would roll again at the next hour, for the 12:00 turn.) If Johann is successful then the Austrian Player would announce it one turn (twenty minutes before they arrive). These troops enter within four hexes of Ober Siebenbrunn. The roll should be seen by both sides.
Arrival Table (Use two dice) 10:00 – roll of 11, 12 or 13 11:00 – roll of 11, 12, 13 or 14 12:00 – roll of 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15
13:00 – roll of 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 14:00 – roll of 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 21 15:00 – roll of 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 21 or 22 16:00- roll 0f 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25
The French provided cavalry units to watch for the approach of Johann’s Army. When it did not appear, these units were released. Grouchy’s Cavalry Division starts in the Unter Siebenbrunn strategic box at the 7:00 turn Montbrunn’s Cavalry Division starts in the Unter Siebenbrunn strategic box at the 7:00 turn. Option – Placing the Guard Cavalry (Lt. Cav.) Division in the Unter Siebenbrunn strategic box would add two to the die roll, for every hourly roll. Any of these French Cavalry formations may be removed from the Unter Siebenbrunn strategic box but only at the hour, in the French phase. To do so Napoleon must send an Imperial Aide to the Ober Siebenbrunn to give the order for each hour, if removing one formation at a time. If Grouchy or Montbrunn leave the strategic box before 12:00, subtract two to the die
