Leipzig 1813

La Bataille de Leipzig 1813 Special Unit Types and Formations

Earthworks There are 3 earthworks which were constructed on the battlefield during the 15 th of October 1813, and the French placed Fixe batteries in each of them to improve the defense of Lindenau. These man- made positions area strong from the front but are quite open to the rear as men and artillery supplies must enter.

The French batteries that begin in the earthworks may not limber and may not move or change facing. They remain in position for the entire battle The earthworks hex has 3 front hex sides and 3 rear hex sides. Fire defense of the earthworks thru the front hex side is 10, and thru the rear the fire defense is 6. Units may move to enter the earthworks hex only thru the rear hex sides as it is treated as a clear terrain hex move. Note: A melee assault is the only way to enter an earthwork thru the front hex sides. A single infantry battalion may enter thru the rear of the earthworks either defensively to stack with and support the batterie, or a single enemy battalion may assault the earthwork to take it. The batterie may only fire through the

front hex sides of the earthwork.

Melee thru a front hexside is minus 12 to the attackers pre- melee morale check, and any assaulting infantry is halved in melee. When assaulting thru a rear hexside, the attack is made as if it was into a clear terrain hex. Cavalry may charge or melee only through the rear hex sides. However they may not enter the earthwork as a result. The defending units would suffer any result.
