La Bataille de Leipzig 1813 Special Unit Types and Formations

When and if the Rheinbund cavalrie defects, it would then be treated as Prussian cavalry in all respects. The specific leaders of the defecting cavalrie are considered captured, and removed from play.

If any of the Rheinbund infantrie battalions find themselves on Level 1, 2 or 3, the next time they are called to make a morale check, you must determine if they will defect to the Coalition.

This check to see if they defect uses the same 4, 5, 6 die roll procedure as outlined for the Rheinbund cavalrie. This defect roll is made anytime an infantrie unit makes a morale check. If they defect to the coalition they will stand in place until the next Coalition movement phase, and at that time they will march their full movement point value toward the closest Coalition forces.

Following a defection of a Rheinbund infantrie battalion, the unit is considered Prussian Landwehr.

Prussian Landwehr

Due to these older soldiers late mobilization and limited training, the Prussian Landwehr is restricted to specific formations which they may adopt. (In addition, von Scharnhorst feared

that the army's regular training would destroy the Landwehr's patriotism and willingness to serve.) Therefore, Prussian Landwehr may only be in General Order, Column, Carre, or Skirmish Order. Only the Landwehr battalions that have a range factor of two, on the specific side of their counters, may enter skirmish formation. Prussian Landwehr which does not have a range factor on their specific counter face may not enter skirmish order.

Prussian Landwehr does not have the option of forming into a line .

The Landwehr may not make any type of voluntary formation change during an enemy phase, i.e. they may not form Carre during an enemy charge sequence. They must stand in their formation using the mandated morale check procedure. Carre may be formed in the Landwehr’s movement phase.

Russian Dragoon’s Ability

The Russian Dragoons had a demonstrated ability to fight as more than a mounted wave of assault troops. The Russian Dragoons have a fire factor and a range on the specific side of their counter. This value permits them to adopt an infantry type skirmish mode in 2 hexes. When they are sitting on a hex side with their specific side facing up, a Dragoon Regiment of 6 increments or less will assume to have 2 increments in each of the two hexes. A Dragoon
