La Bataille de Deutsch Wagram 1809
André Massena ; Maréchal and Preservationist
so many other benefactors of modern times, have done great honor to both society and to the memories of their ancestors as guardians of civilization.
So as you play La Bataille de Deutsch-Wagram 1809, and note Marshal Massena riding the battlefield in his carriage, imagine if you might, perhaps a chalice or a silver plate stowed away in the secret compartments of the carriage as it scurries from one part of the battlefield to another, or perhaps even more accurately, from one church to another monastery where General Massena, always the smuggler, has taken physical custody, of the artworks in the area, and is preparing to bring them to his French estates for their safekeeping in preparation for our enjoyment at the Musee Massena in Nice.
