Karl was hoping to strike lightning again in a bottle and catch the French trying to force their way across the Danube again. Thus the six week delay by Karl ensued. But while the Feldlagers were springing up like so many gold-rush towns amongst the Austrian lines, Karl would never have the opportunity to crush Napoleon before the French brought up The Army of Italy and The Army of Dalmatia and other formations and overwhelm the Austrians.
For Deutsch-Wagram, Napoleon has his army across the Danube and deployed for the coming battle. Karl is partially sitting on a very formidable defensive line and initiates offensive actions on both wings. Karl once again proves that is he is Austria’s superior commander and one of the best of the Coalition Generals. The Austrian player(s) will see for themselves whether Karl’s strategy has merit.
