La Bataille de Friedland et Danzig 1809

Le Siege de Danzig 1807

Historical Note: Once the French reached the Hagelsberg and the relief operations had failed, the Prussian Garrison surrendered. Rather than risk a looting of the city, the Prussian Commander Count von Kalckreuth accepted Napoleon’s terms. The Prussian and Russian forces inside were allowed to leave with their arms and return to the Coalition Command. At the time Count von Kalckreuth was treated as a hero for holding on as long as he did. However just delaying a few weeks more would have thrown a serious complication into Napoleon’s plans, The Emperor would have been far less aggressive in dealing with Bennigsen and the main Russian Army. Leader’s names: The German language has changed a great deal in the past 300 or so years. Different historical works use spellings based on the English or French pronunciation, not necessarily the correct German spelling which was not uniform. This is especially true in Prussia where the leaders spoke French and the people spoke many German Dialects. (Treskau vs. Treschow) Russian names are loose translations and there is a wide variation in the English spelling. The English also like to add a few vowels to French surnames.
